Why we went unisex

1 minute read

When we made our first knits, we made them for men.

Then woman started wearing them. Some borrowed them from their boyfriends and kept them a little too long. Others reached out to tell us how much they liked them. When a friend asked if she could buy one for herself, we realised the knits had stopped being men’s clothing a while ago. We just hadn’t caught up yet.

There is something special about seeing a piece you made being shared. A sweater that moves between two people becomes more than a product. It ends up at someone else’s place on days we were never part of. That’s the kind of life we always hoped our clothes would have.

SCNDI was founded to capture the Scandinavian life, and that life belongs to men and women equally. A brand that only dressed half of it never fully reflected what we were trying to build. Going unisex has made SCNDI more coherent, and more like itself.

From now on, everything we make is made for both. The same pieces, worn by whoever wants them. We’ll show them on men and women, because that’s how people were already wearing them.

It never felt like a risk. Looking back, the people wearing SCNDI made this decision before we did. We just followed.
